Bucket Drum Digger Design
This a design for a digger that is meant to mine surface material on extraterrestrial bodies.
The way the bucket drum digger works is the regolith will enter the digger when it is spinning clockwise and store the material inside of the digger. when we need to remove the material from inside the drum, we rotate the drum counter clockwise.
Digging Demo
Because of the scoop design mounted on the drums exteriors that sequentially take multiple cuts of soil/regolith. Inside the hollow drums are baffles that trap the regolith and prevent it from falling back out of the scoops
Expulsion Demo
When the excavator reaches the dump location, the bucket drums are commanded to reverse their direction of rotation, which causes soil/regolith to be expelled out of each successive scoop.
